CHÂTEAU FONTESTEAU, AN ORGANIC VINEYARD IN THE MÉDOC

Discover Bordeaux wines created by a passionate team, in a vineyard where biodiversity is celebrated and ardently respected

Fontesteau, in the heart of nature

North of Bordeaux, the Médoc and its vineyards extend from the Atlantic beaches to the West to the Gironde Estuary to the East. Nested in the centre of this winegrowing region, the Fontesteau estate features 100 hectares of remarkable natural environment, overseen by principles of sustainable development. Preservation of the estate’s biodiversity is a daily practice and the 20 hectare vineyard benefits from organic agriculture.

A rich forest of century-old oak trees, bordered by pines and acacia trees, and a lake, surround the treasured 13th-century castle and nurture a rich and varied ecosystem.

  • For several years, Château Fontesteau has implemented innovative practices inspired by sustainable development and organic agriculture, engaging the staff in a transformation of the estate into a more responsable business, respectful of its ecosystems. In 2017, Fontesteau took on a huge commitment by joining the Environmental Management System of the Wine of Bordeaux (SME).

  • We grow our wines according to organic agriculture principles as we believe that this is what is best for our soil, its micro-organisms, and for future generations.

Our vineyard is a living organism and we hold ourselves accountable for doing everything in our power to improve and enrich our soils, in order to promote a diversified, natural and thriving ecosystem.

  • Agroecology encompasses a variety of agricultural production methods that are respectful of the environment.

Respecting the principles of sustainable development and organic agriculture methods, our way of cultivating the earth is mindful of our future generations.

  • We share the values of the Independent Winegrowers and adhere to their trade union. The independent winegrower grows, vinifies and sells their wine directly from the property.

The independent winegrower is passionate and takes responsibility for the quality of their work.

They grow their grapevines with care, respecting the environment with the ultimate objective of satisfying their clients.

    The Independent Winegrower:

    •        respects their land,

    •        works their vineyard,

    •        harvests their grapes,

    •        produces and matures their wine,

    •       bottles their produce in their wine cellar,

    •        markets their products,

    •        strives to continually improve while respecting tradition,

    •        welcomes visitors, advises during tastings and takes pleasure in presenting the fruits of their labour as well as their culture.

  • A synergy between nature, the land and the work of our passionate team allows us to cultivate wine while respecting existing ecosystems.

Our work is centered around the aim of extracting the best aromatic expressions from our grapes.

We create wines for epicureans who enjoy cooking and appreciate sharing that pleaure with family and friends.
