France has the world's largest organic vineyard!

France is now the world's largest organic vineyard. By 2023, it had overtaken Spain and Italy, with 159,868 hectares dedicated to organic viticulture, including 90,298 certified hectares and 69,500 hectares in conversion. This performance is the result of French winegrowers' growing commitment to sustainable practices and strong consumer demand for environmentally-friendly products.

Organic wine consumption in France has doubled since 2013, positioning the country as the world's leading consumer of organic wine by 2021. This dynamism has encouraged a rapid conversion of vineyards to organic farming, helping to reduce the ecological footprint and preserve biodiversity.

Occitanie, in particular, plays a key role, accounting for 36% of France's organic vineyards. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate and diversity of resistant grape varieties, this region naturally favors organic viticulture.

As the world leader in organic viticulture, France embodies a successful transition to sustainable agricultural practices, responding to today's environmental challenges while addressing growing consumer expectations.
